New Research: Autism
I am thrilled to share our latest publication in the journal Autism, on facial expressiveness among autistic females and males. This work highlights the need for increased research on how autism may appear differently among females - and how this might impact our fundamental understanding of autism.

New Publication: NPP—Digital Psychiatry and Neuroscience
This paper covers several topics of among adolescents with mental health concerns, and their caregivers, related to the development of emerging digital phenotyping technogies. It also provides a list of questions that may be useful for patient and caregivers in thier interactions with service providers who introduce these technologies to clinical care.

New Publication: AI and Ethics
Our latest paper in AI and Ethics includes an in-depth examination of the reluctance many carry about the intrusiveness and security risks of emerging digital phenotyping technologies. Our hope is that this and upcoming articles on this topic will drive home the need for clinicians to open up dialogues with the people they serve regarding the advantages and risks of these technologies in the provision of care.

New Research Publication: Research on Child and Adolescent Psychopathology
Congrats to Becky Waller and our team for our new paper on the identification of emotion word patterns that signal a risk for the development of Callous/Unemotional traits in young chidren.

Presentation at INSAR’s Annual Meeting in Melbourne, Australia
At this year’s meeting of the International Society for Autism Research, lab member Yvonne Yu presented her emerging work how the field’s gold-standard instrument for measuring autism diagnostic characteristics shows different item-level function based on race and gender. We’re excited to join a growing team of scientists who are examing the extent to which race, ethnicity, and gender can influence how a child is rated on widely used autism assessments.

ENL at the Philadelphia Eagles Stadium for “Huddle-Up for Autism”
Every year we join Philadelphia-area organizations at Lincoln Financial Field to share our autism research and resources, and provide a fun day of family activities. This year’s was one for the record books!

New Editorial: American Journal of Bioethics
We’re excited to have a new commentary in the Americal Journal of Bioethics focused on the ethics of digital phenotyping. This paper focuses on how novel digital phenotyping measures represent an opportunity to invite patients and clients into a conversation about to use their clinical data.

Autism Outreach at Aspira Schools Philadelphia
Today we participated in a resource fair for Philadelphia students at the Aspira Education Campus. The kids had fun participating in lots of activities, while dancing along to a very eclectic DJ. The grownups occasionally succumbed to dancing as well :)

ENL at INSAR in Stockholm, Sweden
ENL made a field trip to the annual meeting of the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR). Jess, Calli, and Yvonne presented on emerging results on the elicitation of valenced facial expressions in autism, and on the ages at which neurodivergent children are diagnosed and captured by CHOP’s Electronic Medical Health record. Congrats for some fantastic presentations!
