John D. Herrington (he/him): Principal Investigator
I study the emotional experiences of neurotypical and neurodiverse individuals. I am particularly interested in understanding how important emotions are to our fundamental understanding of what autism is. I use a variety of tools to approach this question - from brain imaging (functional and structural MRI), to psychophysiology, to computer vision-driven measures of real-world social and emotional behavior. I completed my masters degree at the University of Cambridge, my PhD at the University of Illinois, and my Postdoctoral Fellowship at Yale University.

Casey Zampella (she/her): Scientist
I am a Research Scientist and Licensed Psychologist in the Center for Autism Research and the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Rochester, and completed my APA-accredited internship and postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Psychology at CHOP. My research focuses on quantifying movement differences in autism and the impact of movement differences on social communication. I am particularly interested in clinically harnessing computational approaches and dyadic paradigms capable of capturing precise, bidirectional movement cues as they unfold in natural social contexts, in order to ultimately identify biobehavioral markers of autism that can be used for improved early detection and characterization of individual differences.

Lauren Steinbeck, PsyD (she/her): Clinical Research Psychologist
I am a Research Psychologist at the Center for Autism Research (CAR). I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from La Salle University. After graduation, I completed a one-year neuropsychology fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital Lurie Center for Autism in Lexington, and a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at CAR during which I specialized in early developmental assessment and clinical phenotyping of infants and toddlers. My current role at ENL includes diagnostic assessment and clinical phenotyping of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, and other psychiatric diagnoses. My clinical interests more broadly include selective mutism and working with autistic individuals who have selective mutism.

Maya McNealis (she/her): Clinical Psychology Graduate Student
I am a first year clinical psychology graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania. My research focuses on better understanding the theoretical and diagnostic overlap between the core characteristics of autism, and co-occuring mental health concerns that frequently come with it. I address this topic using novel computer vision methods to characterize social and emotional behaviors in neurodivergent individuals. Prior to graduate school, I worked in the laboratory of Dennis Wall at Stanford University, also focusing on computer vision and autism.

Yvonne Yu (she/her): Clinical Research Assistant
I graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science in Psychology with First Class Honors from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2021. I have worked with clinically and culturally diverse populations across the lifespan in several hospitals and research labs in Hong Kong and the United States, and these experiences have informed my clinical interest in providing empirically and culturally informed care to the neurodivergent youth population, and in examining the potential cultural and racial disparities in autism identification, manifestation, and perception. Ultimately, I plan to pursue a doctoral degree in clinical psychology.

Calliana Faulk (she/her): Technology Specialist
I implement a variety of computational and data analytic elements across ENL research studies. I have a particular focus on electrocardiography data, and how this can be integrated with simultaneously collected video data capturing facial expressions and gestures. Prior to joining ENL I received my Bachelors degree in Cognitive Psychology and Computer Science at Renssselear Polytechnic Institute.

Caitlyn Kim (she/her): Clinical Research Assistant
I received by B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2023. I am interested in research on youth autism and co-occurring conditions, especially ones that can be translated into prevention and intervention programs. I hope to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology with a focus on youth mental health in the near future.
